Download Managers
There is nothing worse than trying to download a large file when you set it up, walk away and come back later only to find it has stopped half way through.
How do you fix this annoying computer conundrum?
Easy, install a download manager.
How do you fix this annoying computer conundrum?
Easy, install a download manager.
Download managers do exactly what the name implies, they simply manage your downloads, although some have extra features that you can add on or disable. By using one of these you can begin downloading a file and then should it be halted for whatever reason, you can simply resume the download right from where it stopped so you do not have to start over from scratch!
There are several download managers available, many free and some are also built into certain web browsers. For Windows XP, a simple free one will do the job.
One I recommend is Free Download Manager also known as FDM. It is free and easy to install, it is also a very small file and it encompasses a few simple options to manage and organize your downloads.
You can get FDM from www. freedownloadmanager.org
Download managers are also known as ‘accelerators’ because it is believed they accelerate your downloads, but the truth is, nothing can actually speed up the bit rate of your download, this is primarily governed by the throughput speed of your internet connection which is controlled by your ISP.
Accelerators are also referred to other items that can be enabled within your browser environment or download manager packages, they generally offer additional software such as ‘blogging’, video and file conversion, file sharing etc.
You must ensure that you are using the right software for your operating system, should you have a Windows 32bit operating system, then you will require a 32bit download manager and conversely a 64bit download manager applies for Windows 64bit operating systems.
So go-ahead, get your free download manager and enjoy the experience of un-broken downloads and now you have more time for this!
